BLUETOOTH FAQS

Bluetooth is a wireless technology that allows devices to communicate with each other over short distances. It is commonly used to create personal area networks (PANs) between fixed and mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and headphones.

There are two important parameters to consider when using Bluetooth devices: class and supported profiles.

The “class” of a Bluetooth device determines the distance at which it is able to connect with other devices. Most mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, are Class 2 devices, which have a range of up to 10 meters (33 feet). Class 1 devices are less common and have a range of up to 100 feet.

A “profile” is a type of Bluetooth connection that allows devices to communicate in specific ways. The most common profiles are the Headset (HSP) and Handsfree (HFP) profiles, which allow devices to connect to wireless headsets and handsfree systems.

Other profiles include OBEX (OBject EXchange), which enables the transfer of files, contacts, and events; A2DP, which adds support for streaming stereo sound; and AVRC, which allows for remote control of playback.

By understanding these parameters and the different profiles available, you can better utilize the capabilities of your Bluetooth devices and create efficient and effective personal area networks.
