OBD GPS TRACKERS for cars / kids / security

Most cars after the year 1994 have an OBD port. The obd port looks like the picture below

This port is located somewhere under your drivers dash, lay on the floor and look up. In some cars, it may be behind a panel, but almost all cars will have this port. From this port, information such as fuel, mileage, and other information comes out via data. Most importantly, it has power and ground. So from this port, you can PLUG IN A SELF CONTAINED device and have GPS in less than FIVE SECONDS.

Do you have a new teen driver in your family, do you want to track your car for security or other reasons? Most people will not know to check the OBD port for a device, you after you plug an OBD GPS tracker in your car, no one will usually know but you!

Track where your kids are, when they drive and if they are going too fast. See where your wife is and if she is stuck in traffic. If your car gets stolen, call the police with the exact location.

Below are some devices we recommend after going through a few products.

We recommend the VYNCS because it includes the DEVICE –AND– the monthly subscription in the price. No extra fees for one year! And renewal is the same price as of this writing. All devices have 3G cell service, so there will be NO FREE GPS tracking device on the market. Be advised of that.

See the VYNCS here for the device and INCLUDED service

The motosafety GPS OBD tracker lets you know when your car needs service. It also has driving reports and much more

An more upgraded unit is the MASTRACK which has a BATTERY BACKUP!

Contains an internal backup battery that automatically charges while connected to the vehicle. Track this device even if it is unplugged
Unlimited email and text message alerts for tampering, speeding, geofence, etc.
Real-time GPS updates up to every 1 minute. Nationwide coverage (USA & Canada). Required monthly subscription as low as $10.99
No installation. Simply plugs into OBD-II port available on every vehicle manufactured since 1996. 1 Year Manufacturer’s Warranty
Use any internet enabled device. No software required. Android and iOS app available

If you want an unit which you can hide away, check out the SCOUT. This will have a built in battery for 24 hours, anything longer and it will need to be recharged or connected to a wire for charging.

This is a low cost investment, and your insurance company may offer you a discount (ask them!)

Remote start season coming

Remote start season is coming, and you should start preparing for the installation now before it ices up and gets too cold.
Here are some basic remote starts which will get the job done. Remote start will heat up your car before you get into it. Remote starts will melt the ice off your windows, no more scraping the ice!

The avital 4103 is a good remote start with a lot of feature, which will work in almost every car. It is compact and very easy to install and comes with instructions.

An upgrade to this unit is a 2 way remote start with security and paging. A little fancier and offers page back when the car is started. It also has a car alarm package with siren and flashing lights

A basic unit from Compustar is the CS800 with keyless entry. Compact and small, this unit will be a good pair for any car.

You will need a bypass kit to go with either of these, to work through data – to bypass the immobilizer in your vehicle

See the EVOALL for an universal immobilizer bypass module

Does your car USB port charge your phone way too slowly? Read why.

The USB ports in cars follow older USB standards, USB 1 and maybe USB 2- Since these standards are set, it charges your phone at a very low amperage. Since these standards were set a very very long time ago, phones, tablets and other devices which use USB to charge have dramatically changed. It is not uncommon for you to be using your phone for GPS navigation, have it plugged in and then have it die while it is being plugged in a charging.

Most newer devices require at least 1.5 amps to charge correctly or even more. There is no way to improve the existing USB port in your car to make it charge with more power, but you can use the cigarette lighter plug and get a high amperage charger.
